To edit a previously created card, either click the card on your LeanKit board to open it, or right-click the card and select the aspect of the card that you would like to edit.
Tip: When editing card settings, the card preview in the bottom left-hand side of the window will reflect any changes that you make, so you know what the card will look like before you save the card.
Once you open the card, In the Details tab, you can change the card’s:
- Card Type
- Start / Finish Dates
- Card ID
- Custom Icon (labelled Class of Service by default)
- The card’s status as Blocked or Unblocked.
When adding or removing a block, you will be asked to provide a reason/description of the block.
You can also add or remove tags from the card, select or change a parent card, specify a link to an External URL and text description to go along with it.
Note: A card’s Permalink (located bottom right of any card) is a direct URL that leads to that card, regardless of the lane that it is located in. The link will never change as long as the card exists on this board.

In the Assigned Users tab, you can see a list of all users associated to the account. In order to assign/unassign a user to this card, simply click on the user, and a checkmark will appear/disappear to the right of their name. Users assigned to the card are now grouped at the top of the list, under the Assigned Users heading. Users that are not assigned to the card are shown on the lower section of the list, under Unassigned Users.
Tip: To add a user, contact an account administrator. If your account administrator does not have any additional user/board viewer licenses to allocate, he/she must contact the Account Owner (the only member of the organization that can purchase additional licenses).
In the Comments tab, you can see all comments that users have made on this card. To add a comment, type your message in the text editor and select Post Comment.
Tip: If you are just viewing comments, and would like to hide the text editor, you can select Hide Editor.
In the Attachments tab, you can view, add, or delete a card’s attachments. To add an attachment, you can simply drag the file from your computer to this window. Alternatively you can select the “browse and choose file” option and select the file that you would like to upload. If necessary, add a file description, and then click Save Attachment.
To download an attachment from a card, simply click on the download button to the right of the file name to download. You can also delete an attachment by clicking on its trashcan icon, or edit its description/file version by clicking on the pencil and paper icon.
Note: Depending on your LeanKit edition, you may have different restrictions as to the maximum upload size and storage capacity of your board.

For a better understanding of when, why, and how things have happened within LeanKit, the history of each card is recorded automatically. Once very difficult to achieve with tactile boards, now it's easy to find out information such as:
- Who created the card
- Who moved the card
- Where the card was moved to/from
- When the card was moved
- Who assigned the card, to whom it was assigned, and when
- Who changed the card details (e.g., description, tags, etc.)
Enabling Custom Icons (called “Class of Service” by default) can help you and your team to better identify specific cards or help to keep track of specific steps in your work process. To enable Custom Icons:
- Click on the gear icon in the top, right-hand corner of your board.
- Select the Custom Icon tab.
- Click the Enable Custom Icon button.
You will then be able to rename “Class of Service” to whatever you want to call your custom icons, and you will be able to add or remove new icons to suit you and your team’s specific needs.
You can manage your icons as shown above.
If you have several card icons, they will automatically decrease in size (when there are more than 5) to make room for more!
