Card Type and Custom Icon menus will be returned to default behavior.
Several LeanKit accounts have enabled the capability to switch the function of Card Type and Custom Icon on specific boards. When these functions were switched, the selection made in the Card Type menu displayed as an icon (as opposed to the default, which is card color), and the selection made in the Custom Icon menu displayed as card color (as opposed to the default, which is card icon).
As part of the new, faster LeanKit experience, we will be returning Card Type and Custom Icon to their default behavior on all boards on August 24.
Only boards with this capability specifically enabled will be affected by this change.
You have two options to manage this change:
- A hands-off approach in which we return your Card Type and Custom Icon functions to their default setting. This option maintains the look of your current board visualization, i.e. all card colors and icons currently displayed on your board will remain the same, but the items under Card Type and Custom Icon menus will be swapped.
- A manual approach in which you toggle the Card Type and Custom Icon function yourself. This option leaves your menu items unchanged, but will change the card colors and icons currently displayed on your board.
The Hands-Off Approach
For the hands-off approach, we’ll switch menu items for both Custom Icon and Card Type on August 24. This means the menu items you currently see under Custom Icon will appear in the Card Type menu, and vice versa. Once this change is made, your board users will select card color from the Card Type menu, and icon from the Custom Icon menu. This is the default behavior for all LeanKit boards.
If you have an integration currently set up for this board, you will need to update its logic to account for the changes to Card Type and Custom Icon fields by August 24.

After the Change -- Menu Options Have Switched but card color and icon remain the same
The Manual Approach
If you decide to toggle the Card Type and Custom Icon function yourself to maintain your current menu items, you’ll need to make a few changes prior to the migration on August 24. To do this, go into the Card Types tab in Board Settings and click Use Color For Card Type to return to the default behavior.
Upon making this selection, the card colors presently on your board will change. You can manage this by going to the Card Types tab in Board Settings and choosing new colors for each card type. You’ll see that icons on your cards will change, too. Similarly, you can manage this by visiting the Custom Icon tab in Board Settings and choosing new icons.
Click Use Color for Card Type to return to default behavior.
